2.1 Approaches

Postby Erin Catto » Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:13 pm

I've closed out most of the issues and the code is now stabilizing for 2.1. Please file any remaining issues you have for 2.1.

I've implemented all the features planned for 2.1, so now I just need to work on the documentation.

Report your issues here: http://code.google.com/p/box2d/issues/list

There's some exciting stuff in here. Kinematic bodies - This is essentially static bodies that can be moved around manually, but don't react to any collisions, correct? So If I push a kinematic body into a static one by setting its velocity it'll just pass right through it? If so this is perfect. I've been abusing mouse joints for this stuff. It would be even more useful if you could set the position and rotation directly, though.

You should move kinematic bodies by setting their velocity. They will not collide with kinematic or static bodies. The solver uses their velocity for friction. Please see the BodyTypes example for usage.

Thanks Erin - Kinematic bodies sounds like an amazing feature - cannot wait to experiment with it - and be able to move formerly static bodies around with the mouse easily!

Update:

I'm making some improvements to continuous collision resolution. This will delay 2.1 a little bit.

Erin, you should probably update todo.txt some time too ;)

I'm probably gonna get rid of todo.txt and just use the Google issues tool.

Is it going to work on Linux?

Box2D uses platform independent C++. Also, I'm planning to move Box2D to CMake to help building on other platforms.
